2. Stockinette stitch, stocking stitch
Simple and very common stitch.
All odd rows are knitwise, all even row purlwise.
It is often used for colour patterns, for instance Fair Isle.
Reverse stockinette stitch (wrong side of stockinette) looks very nice from loop or spot yarns or boucle yarns. It is often used as background for aran and cable stitches.
This picture shows
tendency to curling. That is natural feature of this
stitch.
